Sustainability

It is our aim to offer our customers a product that fits 100% into their lives and makes baking an experience through its sustainability, quality, and design language. This is complemented not only by our meticulous selection of raw materials, FSC-certified wood or cellular substitutes, water-based paints and much more, but also by the daily efforts in our Berlin factory to become even better and more sustainable.

Raw materials

In addition to sourcing materials as sustainably as possible from FSC-certified forestry in Germany or Europe, emphasis is placed on long-term partnerships with suppliers, with whom a portion of the business is conducted in the second or third generation. All colours used are exclusively food-grade colours based on water. Our cartons consist of 80-100% recycled material and we avoid printing where possible, so that they can be returned to the recycling loop even more effectively.

Production

As one of the few manufacturers, we produce our products exclusively in Germany, largely at our main facility in the heart of Berlin. This allows us to guarantee quality and environmental protection. Just recently we invested in new machinery that saves up to 25% energy and 20% raw materials. In addition, we invest in photovoltaic systems and source our remaining electricity from renewable sources.

Logistic

Short supplier distances and transport consolidation are part of an as efficient as possible logistics to avoid unnecessary trips. This also includes delivery from a central warehouse to prevent orders for large customers from being shipped in multiple consignments. To this end we rely on the latest trucks (some with alternative drives) to reduce emissions.

Packing

We are working to ensure our products and packaging contain as little plastic as possible. We source our film from Germany, which is approved for recycling cycles again and recorded in the central recycling point system. As Demmler works daily to improve, we are currently testing alternative materials to completely eradicate plastic from our processes in the near future. All of our products can be disposed of through the usual recycling channels. Additionally, our cake toppers and baking papers are certified as industrially compostable.

At Demmler, sustainability is not just a buzzword but, for years, a conviction-driven approach. They view themselves as part of their environment and therefore aim to address this with their sustainable products. The entire production and supply chain are kept in view, with a constant effort to improve. They are working on using new materials that have no negative impact on the environment and future generations, and all raw materials are certified and tested by independent laboratories for their composition. Naturally, all Demmler products, the raw materials used, and the manufacturing conditions are checked multiple times a year by independent institutes.
