Sustainability

It is our aim to offer our customers a product that fits 100% into their lives and makes baking an experience with its sustainability, quality and design language. This not only applies to our meticulous selection of raw materials, from FSC-certified wood or cellular substitutes, water-based colours and much more, but also that we work daily in our Berlin factory to become even better and more sustainable.

Raw materials

In addition to sourcing as sustainably as possible from FSC-certified forestry in Germany or Europe, the company primarily focuses on long-term partnerships with its suppliers, with whom it sometimes works in the second or third generation. All colours used are exclusively food-grade colours on a water basis. Our cardboard packaging is made from 80-100% recycled material and we avoid printing where possible so that it can be returned more easily to the recycling system.

Production

As one of the few manufacturers, we produce our products exclusively in Germany, largely at our main facility in the heart of Berlin. This enables us to guarantee quality and environmental protection. Recently, we invested in new machinery that saves up to 25% energy and 20% raw materials. In addition, we invest in photovoltaic systems and source our remaining electricity from renewable sources.

Logistic

Short supplier routes and transport consolidation are part of an as-efficient-as-possible logistics to minimise unnecessary journeys. This also includes delivery from a central warehouse to avoid sending orders for large-volume customers in multiple shipments. We rely on the latest lorries (partly with alternative drive systems) to reduce emissions.

Packing

We are working to ensure that our products and packaging contain as little plastic as possible. We source our film from Germany, which is approved for recycling in the circular economy and recorded in the central green point system. As we strive to improve daily at Demmler, we are currently testing alternative materials to completely ban plastic from our processes in the near future. All of our products can be disposed of via the usual recycling channels. In addition, our cake toppers and baking papers are certified as industrially compostable.

At Demmler, sustainability is not just a buzzword but has been our approach for years, rooted in our conviction. We see ourselves as a part of our environment and therefore aim to address this with our sustainable products. We keep the entire production and supply chain in view and continually strive to improve. We are working on using new materials that have no negative impact on our environment and future generations, and we have all raw materials certified and checked for their composition by independent laboratories. Naturally, all Demmler products, the raw materials used, and the manufacturing conditions are inspected several times a year by independent institutes. Read more about Demmler and our approach here.
